READ EDUCATIONAL TRUST
Our importance to South Africa:
Illiteracy is one of our country’s most serious problems, stunting individual progress and South Africa’s growth. READ is dedicated to bringing about change.
Read Educational Trust is a South African NGO that operates broadly in the education and literacy sectors, specifically in educator training and the provision of school resources.
Established in 1979 and funded by both local and foreign donors as well as the private sector, READ works alongside the Department of Education to implement teacher training and literacy projects in schools.
PLEASE NOTE: After 18 years of successful Rallies, the program is going through a “re-invention”. We will be continuing with the three Rallies that are still in their 3-year cycle (Western Cape, Free State and Eastern Cape) and are working on new ideas for the other provinces which are currently completing their cycle. The entire Rally to Read format is being revisited and READ will be sure to update you as soon as various options and fresh initiatives have been discussed. We are in the process of planning exciting changes!
Bookings for the above three Rallies will be open on the Rally to Read website from the 15th February 2017.
